Appliances made of stainless steel such as fridge, gas or electric cooker hob, microwave, dishwasher, and toaster, among others really look great in your kitchen. Besides, they are durable and will not rust and corrode easily.

On the other hand, they have to be maintained regularly or else they would not last long. To give you ideas on how to maintain them, we have listed some tips that we think can make your stainless steel more appealing and functional.

1. Use microfiber cloths

Fingerprints are the common problem in stainless steel appliances. To remove these fingerprints and dirt on these appliances wipe them with water and microfiber cloths, which are non-abrasive materials that are super soft. You can make your stainless-steel appliances shine like new with these microfiber cloths. Besides, you can wash them and use them again.

2. Clean with vinegar and oil

Stainless steel appliances must be cleaned regularly. To clean them you may use a vinegar and oil. First, you must know the direction of the grain of the stainless steel that may be horizontal or vertical. Once you determined it, spray a vinegar all around the appliance and wipe it down with a soft cloth on the direction of the grain. Naturally, some dirt will be removed. Afterward, dip your cloth with oil such as olive oil and wipe your appliance again on the direction of the grain. You will notice that the dirt on your appliances are removed and it will shine like new again.

3. Use club soda

Another alternative for cleaning the stainless steel appliances is the use of club soda. You may spray club soda on your appliances and wipe them with soft or microfiber cloth. This process will remove the dirt, fingerprints, and food residue of your appliances effectively.

4. Opt for glass cleaner

Fingerprints on stainless steel can be removed easily with a glass cleaner. All you need to do is spray the glass cleaner on a soft or microfiber cloth and apply it onto your appliances in a circular motion. Then, rinse it and let it dry. You will notice that the fingerprints are removed.

5. Apply dish soap and baby oil

You may also clean your stainless steel appliances with dish soap and baby oil. First, clean the appliance with dish soap that removes dirt and excess oils. Then, finish it with a little bit of baby oil on a microfiber cloth. Polish and wipe your appliance with it on the grain of the stainless steel.

6. Avoid these cleaning solutions

There are some cleaning solutions that can damage your stainless steel appliances and you should avoid them. Among them are the following:

  • Cleaning solutions that have a chloride or chlorine bleach
  • Jewelry polish that has chemicals
  • Steel brushes, steel wool, abrasive scrubbing pads

7. Let it cool

Do not clean your stainless steel appliances when they are hot or warm because they might be a reaction that can damage your stainless steel appliances.  It is advisable that you clean them when they are cool.

Your stainless steel appliances will reach its lifespan when you apply the above tips to maintain them. Likewise, your kitchen will look modern and sleek with shining and functional stainless steel appliances.
