Expert Ideas for a Healthier Home

At this new age and generation, where everything is in control by automating through electricity, saving energy is a must thing to do. People including the children must save energy.

At an early age, children must be taught in the ways on how to save energy. Children are more willing to learn how to do this.

To help you educate your children about energy saving, we have rounded up the following ways that we think you could teach your children on how they can save energy:

1. Turning off everything that is not in use

Yes, if you did not tell your children to turn off the television or aircon when not in use, they indeed won’t turn it off. You should teach your children to switch off a device when not in use and explain why. They must know that it is one way to save energy. Educate your children why you should save energy in the first place. Once they learned about it, they would be conscious of turning off their devices when not in use. These devices include their gadgets and their chargers, television, air conditioner, electric fan, computers, and radio, among others.

2. Switching off the lights

Often times, children forget to switch off the lights in the bathroom and bedroom. Make sure that you inform your children to switch off the lights when not in use. Some children are afraid in the dark too, that they want to turn on the light the entire evening till morning. It would really consume energy. Advise your children to turn off the light and be brave in the dark so that he can save energy. If he is still afraid, you may use a solar lamp that you could charge in the morning and use at night. In this way, your children know how to save energy and you could save energy to the fullest too.

3. Limit screen time

You must set rules in using your children’s gadgets such as computers, tablets, and smartphones, among others. As much as possible limit their screen time, which could save energy and at the same time good for their overall well-being.

4. Encourage your children to go outdoors

Most children of today miss playing outdoors. Why not encourage your children to play outdoors with your neighbors or just run in the park? Take time to be with them so they will play outdoors. Playing outdoors could save you energy instead of letting them sit and play in their gadget the whole day.

You may also go somewhere such as in the mall from time to time. You may also bring them to church and encourage your children to socialize with the church members. Letting them socialize with people is good for their well-being and at the same time they could shift their attention in using their gadgets each day.

5. Cultivate creative activities

To make your children not hook on using too many gadgets thus save energy, stimulate and encourage them to do some activities that could enhance their creative skills. These activities include drawing, painting, reading, cross-stitching, scrapbook making, and crafting. Indeed, they will enjoy these things and at the same time improve their skills.

6. Teach them easy habits

There are some easy habits that are simple that you can teach your children on how to save energy. Among them are the following:

  • Do not open and close the fridge door. And make sure that they do not leave the fridge door open during a period.
  • Do not use the aircon when the weather is not really hot. If possible, let them not use air conditioner in the evening as most of the time the atmosphere is cold.
  • Let them close their bedroom curtains to keep the heat out during hot days.
  • Limit their time using a hot shower and tell them not to play with it. You could save around 20 percent for water heating cost.

Explain to your children the importance of energy saving and the above ways on how to save energy. Let them know that if they do the following energy-saving ways they could help the planet Earth and good for their future. Indeed, they would follow and heed these ways.
