Saving Energy Bills

1. Opt for energy-efficient appliances

Make sure that you use devices that are energy efficient. These appliances use less energy consumption that could cut back your energy bill each month. To know if the appliances are energy efficient check the label with ticks attached to them. The more the number of ticks the more the appliance is energy efficient.

2. Unplug the appliances

Leaving your appliances and devices over time could add to your electric bill. You have to unplug them at the power point when not in use. Most often times, people forget to unplug the charger, computer, television, washing machine, and electric fan. You must be aware of turning off these devices to avoid a surge of your electric bill.

3. Choose energy-efficient light bulbs

Energy-efficient light bulbs such as LED or CFLs could indeed reduce electric consumption. You may change your traditional bulbs with these types of light bulbs to save more energy.

4. Use energy saving gadgets

Make your home smarter by using energy saving gadgets that can reduce energy consumption and save more money. These smart gadgets include a smart thermostat, energy monitor, timer plug, MicroBot Push, occupancy sensor, and smart home virtual assistants, among others.

5. Turn off the lights

Many people often forget to turn off the lights when not in use. It could really add to your energy consumption. Make it a habit to turn off the lights always. You may also opt for natural lighting during the daytime. Also, to conserve energy you may use solar lamps in the evening in your backyard. However, make sure that you charge it in the morning. There are also solar fence lamps that automatically charge in the morning and illumines at night. You can indeed save energy if you use this type of lighting.

6. Do not use the dryer

If the weather is hot, this is the time to hang your clothes outside instead of using the dryer. In this way, you can lessen the use of energy.

Saving Water Bills

1. Fix leaks

Leaks in pipes, faucets, and sink could indeed escalate your water bill. You must let it fix by an experienced plumber right away to avoid an increase of your water bill. You could detect leaks when there are drips on the faucet, broken pipes, and damage flush tank, among others.

2. Fill up the dishwasher

Fill up the dishwasher before you run it. Make sure that it is full. Do not use the dishwasher oftentimes as this may waste water. Also, choose the shortest and economy wash cycles.

3. Don’t open the faucet while brushing your teeth

When you are brushing your teeth, do not leave the faucet open. Also, it is better to get a glass of water for gargling your mouth once done brushing your teeth.

4. Take a shorter shower

Do not take too long in a shower. Having a shorter shower could lessen your water usage by almost 20 percent.

5. Provide a water cistern in your bathroom

Have a water pail or a medium size cistern in your bathroom. This thing will prevent using a shower or tap often, which releases much water once you make it runs. You could save water in the pail or cistern and use it for washing your hands or feet or even cleaning the toilet.

6. Use two basins for dishwashing

If you are using your hand to wash the dishes, use two basins. One basin is for soaping the dishes and the other one for rinsing the dishes. You will save much water using these basins rather than keeping the water runs while soaping and rinsing the dishes.

Utilities such as electricity and water are expensive nowadays. The good news is that you can cut back your energy and water bill with the above habits. Indeed, it is financially rewarding and environment-friendly too.
