This tells us that our drains could run this long smoothly and without any problems.

This is actually something debatable because it can even last longer just depending on the ways how we use them.  Sometimes the responsibility is not on our sinks and drains alone. Home Chemical Remedies:

Just right inside our homes, in the kitchen to be specific, you can actually find good chemicals to help us aid this problem. These are sometimes subtle chemicals which are away from hazardous effects or poisoning. These are also more economical when it comes to the price compared to the premixed ones we buy in the supermarket.

1. Baking Soda and Vinegar

No One could ever go wrong with baking soda! The number one savior among our household problems are these two chemicals we find in the kitchen. Science tells us that the acidic content of the vinegar +  the basic abilities of the baking soda could totally eliminate and corrode all organic things they come to pass through. Having these two combined results in a chemical reaction that will unclog your drains.  To start, you should remove all visible debris on your drain opening.  Pour up to 100 grams of dry baking soda down your drain. Then immediately pour half  a cup of vinegar to start the chemical reaction. If you can see bubbles forming, it is now the time to cover the drain with a rag or drain plug. Leave this for 30 minutes to let it corrode the clogging materials.

Once done, you can now remove the plug, and run a hot boiling water into the drain to make sure that everything is flushed out.

2. Dishwashing Liquid and Boiling Water

One of the agents causing drain clogging especially with kitchen sink drains are solidified grease and oils. If this is the case, a dishwashing liquid and boiling water is a good DIY fix. The process starts by squirting a good amount a generous amount of dishwashing liquid down the drain. The dishwashing liquid formula should be a concentrate for it to have the full abilities to ungrease the pipes. Once the process is done, quickly follow it by pouring 1 kettle of a boiling water as a reinforcement. This will surely take away all of the clogs in the drain. Once the drain has been cleared, it is helpful to do this at least once a week. You can also get some help with plumbing professionals to help you install a grease trap within your kitchen drain system.

3. Salt, Baking Soda and Warm Water

One good way of clearing drain clogs is using the salt, baking soda and warm water combination. You can start this by mixing 1:1:1 portions of each element. Mix half cup of salt to a half cup of baking soda to a half cup of water. This paste will act as a pushing agent for the drain clogs especially food leftover and hairs. Once you have produced the paste, you can just easily pour it down the drain and leave it there for 20-30 mins. Longer stay duration of the paste to the pipe, the better result you’ll yield. It works like a miracle. The salt and baking soda will break down hair and food leftovers. This makes it an all-in-one solution for both kitchen sink and bathroom drain.

After 30 mins or longer, you can follow a pour of boiling water to loosen up the broken down particles even further.  This is a sure fix to your clogged drains.

Physical Remedies

Sometimes tough clogs are not even solved by chemical means.  This boils down to a fact that we need to exert more pressure to the problem! Literally! There are so many available low-tech devices which we can use to solve the clogged drain problems.

1. Hand Drain Snake

This might sound unusual, but yes, hand drain snake exist. This is a very special device which is designed specifically for clearing out tubes in all forms and angles. It is made up of clawed wired which will act as a pushing, or pulling factor for our clogged pipes. All you have to do is to push the drain snake down into our pipes until you  have reached the end.  It has a round hand handle which will help you push and pull the wire easily.  It acts like the mechanism of a fishing rod, the lever will adjust the length of the wire for maximum use.

Once you have reached the end of the pipe, there is a one-press button that will increase the diameter of the wire. The increased diameter will help you pull out all of the accumulated and built up residue causing the clogs.

2. Plungers and Water

We have known the mighty plunger eversince! It has been our classic helping hand when it comes to clearing clogs of all forms.  Which makes it a reason that every household should have some plungers. This easy to use aid just needs the help of water to clear out drain and sink clogs. All you have to do is to fill the sink with water, then start pushing the plunger atleast 3 pushes per second. This will help the water to push out all of the residues causing the clog.  But be careful in doing such because these days, experts would say that a plunger is not a good help as it is only  good for one time use.  Because if you do this process everytime the drain is clogged, you are accumulating all of the residues at the bottom of the pipe causing a bigger and more expensive problem in the future!
