When the weather is hot, we usually resort to turning on our air conditioner. But the thing is, your electric bill can shock you if you are not aware of the tricks. Indeed, you can enjoy the cool air without suffering from ‘bankruptcy’. That is why we are here to share with you some of the most practical air-con saving tips. We care for you so much that we wouldn’t want you to sweat or to break your banks!

Maintain Your Air Conditioner

The first thing you have to consider is the condition of your unit. It is a must that you regularly schedule it for maintenance. The recommended time frame is every after 3 months. If your appliance is not well-maintained and if the filters are filthy, you cannot expect optimum performance. It might need to work twice as much, and that means you will have to pay more.

Lower It Down During Bedtime

You do not have to use the same level of ‘coolness’ during night time. Thus, it is suggested that you turn your air-conditioner down a bit or have it in sleep mode.

Connect the Timer to Your Fans

Another suggestion is to connect your air conditioner’s timer to your fan. What happens is that when your air conditioner shuts off, the fan automatically works, maintaining the temperature of your room.

Make Use of Quality Curtain

It is also essential that you use great curtains if you want to maximize the power of your air-conditioner. Some experts believe that using blackout curtain or the ‘thick ones’ is most beneficial if you want to cool down your room or house. This kind can essentially reflect the ultraviolet radiation from the sun and it makes it hard for the cool air to pass through. Double curtain rods are not a bad idea as well.

Have Your Fan as a Backup

You read that right. Use your fans to circulate cool air. By doing so, your air-conditioner will not have to overwork.

Simply Turn Off Your Lights

Most of us always forget to turn off the lights. But if you form this habit, it can help in lowering down your home’s temperature. This goes the same for all your electronic devices. Your televisions and computers can actually contribute to the heat, even if you do not notice it. Thus, we recommend that you turn off appliances which are not in use. Two things are going to happen if you practice this. One, your room will have a better temperature. And second, your bill will dramatically go down.

Organize Your Furniture

This might seem a little bit odd,but trust us, rearranging your furniture can go a long way. Place your huge items in such a way that it will not block your air-conditioner.

Check Your Kitchen

Obviously, your kitchen is the hottest part of your house. It’s about time that you check your kitchen’s ventilation. If you are using an exhaust fan, ensure that it is in mind condition. Or ask for a professional to check and repair, if necessary. As an added tip, you may want to prepare foods that can generally make you feel cooler. How about making home-made ice cream or a chilled salad?

Keeping your home cool does not have to be extremely costly. In fact, most of our tips are logical but often times, ignored. But if you want to stay cool without breaking your budget, then the above techniques should help you right away.
